Video 1 - Introduction to the Creative ESOL model
This seminar explores Rewrite's pioneering Creative ESOL model of practice. Creative ESOL is a participatory arts approach to language learning, currently being delivered for newly arrived young migrants and refugees aged 11 to 16, both in and out of secondary school settings.
The presentation introduces the Creative ESOL programme and explores the key principles behind the model, drawing on theory around first and second language acquisition, applied theatre and critical pedagogy (relating to the essay for the British Council publication Innovations in English Language Teaching for Migrants and Refugees). It also features feedback from students and EAL teachers gathered during a recent external evaluation of the programme, including a short film documenting the process.
