Welcome to 'English in the multilingual classroom'

How will the course help you?

This course will introduce you to multilingualism and what it means. Learn how to make your classroom and teaching multilingual so that your learners can learn to celebrate and use many languages in the real world.

What does the course include?

English in the multilingual classroom is a self-study training course, which is divided into three hour modules. It also includes:

  • A dedicated Facebook community of course participants with up-to-date insight, resources and innovative ideas for you to try out.
  • Engaging discussions taking place in the Facebook community
  • Live events with your course tutor and language teaching experts.
  • A free workbook with extra learning content and resources.

What will you learn?

Module 1: The benefits of multilingualism

This module will introduce you to what multilingualism is and explore what it means to you as a teacher in a multilingual class. 

Module 2: Multilingualism in practice

This module will help you develop an understanding of multilingualism in elementary education and the benefits of developing and promoting it.

Module 3: Developing multilingual learners

In this module, you will learn to integrate multilingualism within your classroom tasks and activities and plan your English lessons with a focus on integrating multilingualism.

How much does the course cost?

The course is free.

How can you get a certificate?

You will receive a certificate if you successfully complete all self-study modules.

What level of English do you need?

Minimum CEFR B1

I've just checked your account, and you are successfully enrolled in the course. Make sure you are logged in to your TeachingEnglish account, and then click on "MY PORTFOLIO - My courses" to access the modules. Let us know if you are still having problems.

good morning, does enrollment start on the day the course starts, or it can be done in advance? If so, could you tell me what the required steps are because following the steps provided on site it does not seem to work.

You can enroll in the course before the start date. I've just checked that the registration link is working. Which step are you having problems with exactly?

Hi. I'm not sure if I have followed to enrolled successfully or not please guide how can I know if I have successfully signed up for the course or not

I've just checked your account, and yes, you are successfully signed up for the course! If you log in to your TeachingEnglish account, you will see a tab at the top left of the page "MY PORTFOLIO". If you click on that, then on "My courses" it will take you to the course website, where you can continue with the modules.

Sorry you are having problems enrolling. If you are logged in to your TeachingEnglish account, you just need to click on the link to the courses website here: https://open.teachingenglish.org.uk/Home/Dashboard

Then you can click on "Explore all courses" and click to "Enrol in activity". I've just checked the page and it's working fine. Please let us know if you are still having problems.

To enroll on the course, firstly you have to create an account and be logged in to TeachingEnglish. Then you can follow the rest of the steps to access the course website. Here are the steps again:

How do I sign up for the course?

Once you are on the course website, you can click on "Explore all courses" where you will see the button to join this course.

hello ..everyone I can t get access to enroll my courses .I ve registered on the 15 .0w for multilingual reasons..please please what should I do?

We are currently investigating this issue and why the course might have disappeared from some people's "My courses" tab. In the meantime can you try the following:

1. Use the "Help" button on the course platform to report this issue

2. Try logging out of your TeachingEnglish account, and logging back in again to access "My courses"?
