Written and researched by EMI Oxford Research Group in collaboration with British Council China, this paper aims to take stock of the current state of EMI policy implementation in Chinese higher education to better understand EMI provision and to inform future EMI growth. The research was based on three phases of data collection across multiple universities in China and involved analysis of university policy documents, interviews with university stakeholders such as Deans and Heads of Programme, and surveys of teachers and students.
The report findings provide insight into multiple levels of policy implementation, alongside an investigation of current trends, opportunities and challenges. The report contains clear recommendations for future policy development as well as outlining important considerations in relation to EMI implementation.
