Case studies from around the British Council’s global network
This collection of case studies aims to share some experiences in promoting positive attitudes and thinking around specific needs. It also aims to describe teaching and classroom management strategies to create an inclusive learning environment and positive experience for English language learners with specific needs.
Each case study is followed by a reflection activity that can be used for training. Suggested answers to the activities are provided. The activities involve teachers in discussion and challenge the idea that only people with ‘special’ skills are equipped and qualified to teach learners with specific needs.
The 23 case studies represent a diverse range of students with specific needs from different cultural contexts who are learning English in British Council teaching centres or in partnership with other organisations. There is also an invaluable section on guidelines and tips for creating an inclusive learning experience as well as recommended further reading and a list of useful websites.
