Champion Teachers: Stories of exploratory action research

This book provides nine easily accessible examples of exploratory action research projects.

Since 2013 the British Council and Ministry of Education Chile Champion Teachers programme has been helping secondary school teachers engage in exploratory action research projects.

This is a collection of research stories arising from the programme. The book highlights the achievements gained in spite of teachers' difficult working conditions.

The primary purpose of the present book is to provide examples to other teachers of what an exploratory action research project can involve. The nine stories included here also serve to show others in Chile and beyond what some of the Champion Teachers have managed to accomplish.

The nine stories within this book are written in an informal style, broken down into short manageable chunks. They also use visuals to help understanding.

The stories cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Wrapping up classes

  • Seating arrangements and groupings

  • Improving participation and inclusion

  • Motivation for self-confidence in English

  • Encouraging students to speak in English

  • Why don't my students speak in English?

  • English communication in the classroom

  • Improving listening skills

  • Upgrading writing skills.
