This event featured two webinars and two panel discussions with ELT teachers and experts from around the world. All four sessions help English teachers think about how they engage their students with climate issues in the classroom. The webinars are for teachers of primary, secondary and young adult English language learners.

In this second session with Cristiana Osan and Teo Naiba, the focus will be on tackling the climate subject from a cross-curricular approach. This webinar will guide you through developing projects with teachers of different subjects. It will also introduce you to the Climate Connection education resources developed by the British Council and it will provide ideas on how to use these materials for projects that can lead to local action in your community.

Session 4: Engaging learners in climate action - challenges and success stories (panel discussion)

In this panel discussion, three winners of the 2022 Teach Engage Aspire climate competition will share their experiences, solutions and tips for engaging learners with climate issues. They will discuss the insights and learning they gained integrating climate issues into the Egyptian national curriculum.
About the webinar presenters
Cristiana Osan became a DELTA-certified teacher educator after having worked as a teacher for 11 years in Romania. For the last 15 years, she has worked as a teacher educator, a trainers' trainer, a mentor, an online moderator, an examiner for international certificates and a materials writer, thus collaborating in various projects with thousands of teachers around the world. Climate Action in Language Education is one of the most recent projects, both as a course developer and as a moderator.
Teo Naiba lives and works in ClujNapoca, Romania. She has been teaching English for about 20 years and became a teacher educator in 2007. She started working as an emoderator for British Council in 2011 and later on, became a lead moderator. This gave her the opportunity to work on many projects with teachers all over the world. She created teaching materials on climate topics and, most recently, she has been a moderator for the Climate Action in Language Education online course.
About the Teach Engage Aspire panelists
Dr. Hala Gharib is a teacher of English and Teacher Trainer. She is a NILE TESOL member, a British Council Teacher Educator and a RELO Cairo Mentor Trainer 2021. Dr. Hala is an accredited trainer at the professional academy for Teachers, Adult Centre at the faculty of Education Menofeia University as well as discovery Education Egypt.
Tahany Rushdy is an EFL teacher who works for a M.O.E language school, is a British Council teacher educator, and Sharqia governorate coordinator of the National Teacher Training Program and the Teach Engage Aspire project. She has presented at several conferences and has appeared on television as an English teaching expert. She was awarded the 2022 “Teacher of Egypt".
Ghada Hassan Al-Atrony has been a senior English teacher in government language schools for more than twenty years. She is a Microsoft innovative educator expert in incorporating technology in education and works as an ambassador for many edu-tech platforms. She has worked as a teacher educator for the British Council.
Shaimaa Hassan is a PhD researcher who started teaching in 2011 in Egypt. She has taught a wide range of ages and levels online and offline and has been involved in teacher training since 2018. She is a teacher educator and a RELO Mentor.
Osama Mekki is the ELT general supervisor at Sohag Governorate- Ministry of Education- Egypt. He has over 30 years of experience teaching English in Egypt and Kuwait as a teacher, senior teacher, head of the English language department, and as a teacher educator. He was chosen as a general coordinator for the National Teacher Training Programme in Egypt in 2019.
Iman Hassan Zain has taught EFL since 2006 in Al- Azhar Alsharif for variety of levels and ages. She is a British Council teacher educator supervisor in Sharqia governorate in the TEA Program, and has worked with hundreds of teachers on projects with British Council and Al-Azhar Institutes Sector.
About Teach. Engage. Aspire
Teach. Engage. Aspire, or TEA, is a national multilevel beneficiary three-year programme that aims at building the capacity of the English Language sector in Egypt through developing the English language skills of teachers and teacher educators, raising their awareness of global and environmental issues and enabling them to embed best practices in their teaching. The programme is part of the British Council efforts in supporting the education system in Egypt in preparing a generation of lifelong learners and educators, covering a diversity of geographical areas through an active partnership between the Ministry of Education and Al-Azhar, Al-Sharif and UK expertise to improve standards of the teaching, learning and assessment of English. In 2022, the Programme organised a national climate competition where TEA teachers designed a lesson plan showing best practices in integrating climate issues into Egypt national curriculum following their completion of the British Council MOOC on Climate Action in Language Education.

- If requested, introduce the passcode that was emailed to you when you registered for the event.

- From the lobby you will see the session that is either currently live or soon to be live. When a session is live, you can click 'join' to watch the live session.
