About the webinar
The webinar explores the reasons behind the failure to implement learner-centred approaches in developing world contexts. Evidence is recounted which questions the effectiveness of learner-centred approaches and favours effective whole-class teaching. Finally, attempts to promote a balanced approach to pedagogy through a teacher education project in Burma are showcased.
About the speaker
Ian Clifford trained and worked as a primary school teacher in the UK before working in a range of roles for Sheffield Local Education Authority. He then worked as the funding manager for the education strand of an urban regeneration scheme before managing a local voluntary sector organisation with responsibility for a large supplementary school portfolio. Gaining a CELTA certificate in 2009, Ian has since worked in Nepal and Malaysia and is now Director of the English for Education College Trainers Project in Burma / Myanmar. Ian is currently studying towards an MSC in Development Management.
