Information and Communication Technology, or ICT, refers to technological tools that are used to communicate and to manage information.

In the English language classroom it can also include digital tools like apps and learning management systems.

Example
Interactive Whiteboards are an example of ICT.

In the classroom
ICT is often part of a teacher-centred class but it is easy to exploit these tools in learner-centred activities. For example, students can use mobiles, tablets or computers to access learning resources and tools online. When you put the technology into learners' hands, they have more autonomy and control. For example, learners can control audio or video themselves, stopping whenever they want to pause or listen again. There are many online tools to help learners work together to create texts, presentations, posters and audio recordings. Artificial intelligence tools can also help you engage your learners and personalise learning.
