About the speakers
Rebecca Maher, British Council
Rebecca Maher began her career in public relations for big tech clients, Samsung, Facebook and Apple. She joined the British Council after returning from a brief stint teaching English in Nicaragua and shortly after completed a CELTA at International House London. In 2011, when live-streaming on social media platforms was brand new, Rebecca took the British Council Seminar Series online to reach 200,000 teachers worldwide through live CPD sessions. She later completed an MA Digital Media Management at King’s College London to develop a deeper understanding of how digital media is used in social movements. She’s now Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager and, together with Nasia Nikolova, manages the British Council’s annual ELTons Awards for innovation in English language teaching and learning.
Nasia Nikolova, British Council
Nasia Nikolova is the British Council’s English and Exams Stakeholder Communications Manager. With years of experience working in the international education sector, Nasia is the first point of contact for ELTons applicants.
Professor Jim Milton, Emeritus Professor, Swansea University, UK
Professor Jim Milton is the ELTons judging facilitator. He has been involved with the ELTons awards’ programme since its conception in 2002. Jim is Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics at Swansea University, UK, and is part of Swansea’s Vocabulary Acquisition Research Group. This network of staff, research students and other colleagues, from over 40 countries, works to characterise the nature of the mental lexicon. The group has developed a wide range of assessment techniques and these have an equally wide range of applications and surprising power.
Rebecca, Nasia and Jim will also be joined by members of the current panel of judges.
