In the three modules, you will learn:

Module 1 Understanding vocabulary for primary

The aim of this module is to explore how to make learning vocabulary effective and memorable by considering a variety of strategies, activities and resources. You will identify factors that make vocabulary more memorable, describe how to adapt vocabulary activities to different age groups as well as use a variety of activities and materials to make vocabulary memorable.

Module 2  Understanding games for primary

The aim of this module is to explore the advantages of using interactive games in the primary classroom. You'll evaluate a range of games and watch several teachers in practice as they lead games in their classroom. You will describe the advantages of using games in the primary classroom, identify some of the main issues with playing games and have strategies ready to prevent them as well as plan how to use and teach games suited to your learners' needs.

Module 3 Understanding songs, rhymes and chants for primary

The aim of this module is to demonstrate how songs, rhymes and chants can be used to create motivating lessons and enhance children's learning. The module also looks at exploiting and adapting songs, rhymes and chants with different age groups. You will describe how songs can enhance children's learning, describe how rhymes and chants can enhance children's learning as well as identify different techniques for adapting and exploiting songs, rhymes and chants in the classroom.


What else does the course include?

Motivating activities for primary is a self-study training course, which is divided into three-hour modules. It also includes:

  • A dedicated Facebook community of course participants with up-to-date insight, resources and innovative ideas for you to try out.
  • Engaging discussions taking place in the Facebook community
  • Live events with your course tutor and language teaching experts.
  • A free workbook with extra learning content and resources.

When is the course?

Motivating activities for primary is open from 1 April-24 June 2025.


How much does the course cost?

The course is free.


How can you get a certificate?

You will receive a certificate if you successfully complete all self-study modules.


What level of English do you need?

Minimum CEFR B1

How do you access the course after you've enrolled?

IMPORTANT: If you didn't log out of TeachingEnglish after your previous visit, do this first.

From your desktop or laptop computer

1. Log in to your free TeachingEnglish account.
2. If you have enrolled in the course, you will see 'MY PORTFOLIO' in the menu bar at the top of the page next to the Home button.
3. Move your mouse over MY PORTFOLIO to see the drop-down menu.
4. Click on ‘My courses’ to access your training.

From your mobile device

1. Log in to your free TeachingEnglish account.
2. Tap the three horizontal lines next to the home button to open the menu.
3. Below ‘Home’, you will see MY PORTFOLIO and ‘My courses’ below. Tap on MY PORTFOLIO if you don’t see ‘My courses’.
4. Tap on ‘My courses’ to access your training.

I have done module 1 and 2. I tried logging in to Finish up and i kept seeing this debug information error. I have followed the instructions here about various ways to access the course, and its still not working. Please help!

Hi Yosra

Thanks for your comment. Once you successfully complete a course, you can find your certificate by logging into your training in the usual way, then clicking /tapping on the 'My awards' tab. There you should be able to see the 'My certificates' section. The certificate should appear there once you've finished the course.

When you finish the course your certificate will be automatically generated. You can find it by logging in to your course as usual, and then clicking/tapping the 'My awards - My certificates' tab.

Thanks for your message. I have checked and I can see that you are successfully registered. To access your training, make sure you are logged in to your TeachingEnglish account, then click / tap the 'My Porfolio - My courses' tab at the top of the page. You will see your course, and then just click / tap 'Start' for teach module to access the content.

I do have an account and I've successfully registered for a couple of other courses, but it doesn't seem to work with this one.
