How will the course help you?
Learn how to evaluate and write engaging lesson plans, and explore techniques for effective transitions, signalling, task-setting and checking instructions.
What does the course include?
Managing learning is a free self-study training course, which is divided into three-hour modules. It also includes:
- A dedicated Facebook community of course participants with up-to-date insight, resources and innovative ideas for you to try out.
- Engaging discussions taking place in the Facebook community
- Live events with your course tutor and language teaching experts.
- A free workbook with extra learning content and resources (coming soon!).
What will you learn?
- Module 1: Understanding lesson planning
The aim of this module is to consider the importance and usefulness of writing lesson plans. You'll evaluate the importance of lesson planning, identify features, components and stages of lesson plans as well as produce an effective lesson plan.
- Module 2: Managing lessons and learners
The aim of this module is to look into techniques for getting learners' attention, signalling the transition between activities and stages and responding to unexpected classroom events. You'll describe different techniques to manage your classes, evaluate a range of classroom management techniques as well as identify reasons for some types of learner behaviour in the classroom.
- Module 3: Managing activities
The aim of this module is to look at techniques for managing lessons and activities. You'll describe how to control and change pace in a lesson, use gestures to help convey instructions as well as give clear instructions to set up a classroom activity.
When is the course?
Managing learning will be open from 1 October-31 December 2025. Enrolment will open soon.
How much does the course cost?
The course is free.
How can you get a certificate?
For participants who successfully complete all modules, there will be a downloadable certificate of completion at the end of the course.
What level of English do you need?
Minimum CEFR B1
