Abstract:

Edited by Nik Peachey, this book looks at how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used in teacher training through the shared experiences of a global Community of Practice (CoP).

Since 2019, the British Council has supported CoPs among teacher educators, both online and face-to-face, to improve professional development. In 2023, the AI Roundtable for Teacher Educators was started, led by Şirin Soyöz Yılmaz. This group brought together educators from 18 countries to explore AI's potential in teacher education.

The book shows the process and results of this CoP, highlighting useful resources and strategies created by its members. Important topics include AI safety for learners and teachers, AI-based learning tools, lesson planning with AI, and AI-assisted feedback. Each chapter offers practical insights and real-world examples, making it a must-read for educators wanting to use AI in their work.

Contributors discuss the possibilities and challenges of AI, providing practical strategies for training, mentoring, and research. The book stresses the importance of ethical AI use and data privacy, ensuring that AI supports rather than replaces human interaction in education. It also includes reflections from educators on their experiences and the impact of AI on their teaching practices.

Perfect for teacher educators interested in the CoP model and AI's role in education, this book guides readers through new challenges and shows how to use AI for professional growth.

The book aims to inspire educators to embrace AI in a reasoned and thoughtful way, fostering a collaborative and innovative learning environment. See how AI can transform teacher education, creating a more effective and engaging experience for both teachers and learners.
